Christian, Liverpool: Given the opposition so far (including a poorly performing Man Utd), can we really read much into Arne Slot's start at Liverpool?

Phil: Very fair question, Christian. What we can say is that Arne Slot could not have done any better. He has inherited a superb squad from Jurgen Klopp, which is a rarity for a new manager taking on another job, but you can see the buy in from the players already.

And while it is very much business as usual, there are also subtle differences. Liverpool look a bit more controlled under Slot as opposed to the thrilling, but occasionally chaotic, approach under Klopp – that did bring great success.

The signs are good. He is doing it his way without trying to be Klopp. He also has an air of authority as well.

A superb start…although just a start.

Casemiro's wife shared a picture of her husband's personal trophy haul after Manchester United's defeat to Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag insisted Casemiro can remain an important player for Manchester United despite replacing him at half-time after a dismal display in Sunday's 3-0 home defeat to rivals Liverpool.

The Brazilian midfielder lost the ball in the build-up to both of Liverpool's first-half goals and was taken off at the break, replaced by the 20-year-old Toby Collyer, who was making his Premier League debut.

Ten Hag denied rumours that Casemiro had left Old Trafford at half-time.

"I met him after the game in the dressing room, so he didn't leave the stadium at half-time," said the United manager. "Why I subbed him was because we are 2-0 down against an opponent as Liverpool, with their qualities, they are very good.

"We had to take risks because we want to bounce back, then you need players in midfield to cover ground, therefore we put Toby Collyer on the pitch.

"I think that in football everyone has to take responsibility. I'm sure he is a great character and he won everything in his career that you can imagine. I am sure he will keep contributing to our team and Casemiro is always winning so he will be there."

Last week Lauren Smith stepped down from her role as head coach at Bristol City Women.

It means the Championship club, who were relegated from the WSL last season, have just six days to appoint a new manager before their season starts.

The club has a shortlist of names but we don’t know who is on it and whether there has been any developments.

As for Smith, we know she is in advanced talks elsewhere. There had been rumours about her taking up an assistant role at Manchester City but we believe that’s not the case.

Sources have told us she has had discussions over the England U19s head coach position, as well as considering various roles across the WSL.

Good morning as we head into the final two weeks of the Women’s Super League transfer window.

There were some big developments over the weekend with Tottenham announcing the arrival of Australian forward Hayley Raso on a two-year deal, before we reported Spurs midfielder Celin Bizet was having a medical at Manchester United.

I've been told the medical went well yesterday and they are just waiting on paperwork completion now.

United are moving quickly to try to get Bizet signed in time for their pre-season trip to Marbella, which they depart for tomorrow.

United have triggered the release clause in her contract - believed to be around £60,000.

Salah's quotes dominate the Guardian's back-page coverage, which says the Egyptian "issues contract plea after leading United rout".

Talking of Erik ten Hag, here is that story we promised you about his magician quotes.

"It is not like I am Harry Potter," said the Manchester United manager after Sunday's 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool. "You have to acknowledge that.

"For three players it was their first start of the season.

"Manuel Ugarte did not play one minute - he needs to build his fitness. Then we have to build him into the team. I am sure he will contribute to our team. It will take a couple of weeks, maybe even a month. That is the same for a lot of players."

There is no doubt it was a bad day for Ten Hag, given his starting line-up included six of his signings.

His latest, £50.5m Uruguay midfielder Ugarte, was introduced to the fans before kick-off having been registered after Friday’s 12:00 BST deadline to play in the game.
